6.5 million Euro Investment for Constantia Flexibles

8 July 2025

Constantia Flexibles has successfully commissioned a 5-layer blown film line with inline machine-direction orientation (MDO) from Hosokawa Alpine at its Pirk site, with an investment of EUR 6.5 million. This advanced technology uses twelve rollers instead of ten, enhancing film homogeneity, physical properties, and overall quality.

The new technology produces EcoLamHighplus, part of the PE-based EcoLam family. As Prof. Dr. Achim Grefenstein, Head of Group Research and Development, explains, sustainable packaging is increasingly important. Mono-materials, like PE films, are essential for a circular economy, and Constantia Flexibles is committed to leading this trend.

The company aims to provide recyclable solutions made from materials like paper, aluminum, and polyethylene. The investment in the MDO machine supports its goal to offer high-quality, recyclable mono PE films that reduce plastic use and environmental impact.

Hosokawa Alpine’s MDO technology enhances film properties such as transparency, mechanical strength, and barrier effects, while allowing for reduced film thickness without compromising performance. Constantia Flexibles’ collaboration with Hosokawa Alpine ensures consistent quality and process stability.

Looking ahead, the demand for sustainable packaging solutions is expected to grow, and MDO technology will play a key role in reducing plastic use and promoting recyclability in the packaging industry.
