Mondi Expands with FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate

Mondi has ramped up production of its FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate, a paper-based packaging solution offering ultra-high protection against oxygen, water vapour, and grease—ideal for products like coffee sticks, tea sachets, and cereal bars.

Following a €16 million investment in advanced technology at its Solec plant in Poland, the new barrier paper delivers top-tier performance with an OTR and WVTR below 0.5, while significantly reducing cradle-to-grave CO₂ emissions compared to traditional multi-layer plastic or aluminium packaging.

Part of Mondi’s re/cycle portfolio, the solution meets recyclability standards set by Cepi and 4evergreen, aligning with the company’s MAP2030 goals. It’s compatible with existing form-fill-seal lines, making it easy for brands to adopt more circular packaging without compromising shelf life or convenience.
