A Moment to Rethink Packaging
26 April 2026
Mondi has reinforced its leadership in fibre‑based packaging with nine wins at the 2026 WorldStar Global Packaging Awards — a result that underscores how quickly fibre is gaining ground across categories once dominated by plastics and foams.
Mondi’s award‑winning solutions show how fibre is evolving from a simple substitute to a high‑performance packaging platform. Its Protective Mailer, for example, replaces plastic bubble mailers with a recyclable, engineered flute structure that maintains impact resistance while reducing material complexity.
The company’s FreshFood Box also demonstrated how corrugated fibre can challenge EPS in chilled delivery, offering strong thermal performance while fitting seamlessly into existing fulfilment systems.
Mondi’s re/cycle HiProtex Paper — a high‑barrier structure suitable for food, personal care and pet products — highlights how fibre is moving into applications that once relied on aluminium or PVDC composites. With more than 80% paper content and recyclability in established streams, it reflects the industry’s push toward simpler, circular materials.
In the household category, re/cycle CompressWrap showed how fibre can support demanding applications such as mattress compression and transport, combining vacuum‑sealable barrier paper with a durable outer layer.
Mondi’s strong performance, alongside other major fibre innovators, signals a decisive shift: fibre is becoming a mainstream, scalable solution for modern supply chains. With regulatory pressure rising and brands seeking credible pathways to circularity, Mondi’s portfolio demonstrates how fibre can deliver protection, efficiency and recyclability without compromise.
