Mondi Expands Fibre-Based Packaging Range

Mondi has introduced its FunctionalBarrier Paper range, offering fibre-based alternatives to traditional plastic packaging across food, eCommerce, home care and industrial applications. By applying customised barrier technologies – including extrusion and aqueous coatings — the range delivers protection against grease, water vapour and other product-specific needs while remaining designed for recycling.

The papers provide strong mechanical performance, heat-sealability and high-quality printability, supporting seamless use on existing HFFS and VFFS lines. With up to a 95/5 paper-to-plastic ratio, the portfolio aligns with recognised recyclability guidelines and helps brands prepare for upcoming PPWR requirements.

Available in medium, high and very high barrier options, FunctionalBarrier Papers suit everything from frozen foods and chocolates to small parts, fittings and eCommerce packaging. Mondi positions the range as a practical step toward circularity, offering sustainable protection without compromising functionality.
