It is often asked how much of the material from wood chips ends up in the finished paper?
Very close to all of it says Linda Magnusson Sustainability Manager from Holme Iggesund. In the process where the wood chips are washed, preheated and refined to pulp, nothing is filtered away. “We usually say that around 98% is part of the finished paper, since a little spillage can’t be avoided”, says Ms Magnusson. Holmen’s paper is produced via a thermomechanical process, where virtually all of the wood raw material components are used in the finished paper.
Holmen papers are thick even in low grammages. When you measure thickness or weight and compare printing properties such as opacity, you will notice that a lower grammage paper from Holmen achieves the same result as our competitors’ higher grammage paper.
100% of Holmen Iggesdun paper is recyclable and continuously replenishes the global circuit of recycled paper. When the paper fibre can’t be recycled again, it will still be useful as bioenergy.
